02.Painting

Patience

This project started with my fascination for diagonal lines and the way they confuse our perception. It was a long process of masking and painting different diagonal lines until I arrived at something I really liked. Ironically, the result I liked the most was also the most difficult and time-consuming to achieve.

Once the colour palette is decided, each 6 mm line is individually masked and painted with four to six coats, depending on the acrylic paint, to completely cover the background.

Each frame measures 61 × 91.4 cm and takes between 8 and 12 months to complete. The project totals six paintings, three of which are still in the making.

It can make you feel slightly dizzy if you stare at it for too long. Because the colours never follow the same sequence, every piece reveals new and unexpected colour combinations.
