This project began with the idea of photographing Tromsø’s most well-known places under the Northern Lights. The original plan, and working title, was The Northern Lights, embracing the unpredictability of this natural phenomenon.
Once there, the weather changed everything. It snowed for more than a week, and the sky stayed completely white, making it almost impossible to see or photograph the aurora.
Knowing this was a possibility, I had a second plan: to photograph the city of Tromsø and its surroundings.
With patience and long drives, the project took a different direction. Snowy fjords became the main subject, shaping the visual identity of the work. Despite the conditions, I managed to photograph the Northern Lights on one night.
Napoli
This project began as a return to my family’s roots. My family is from Caserta, and this journey was a way to reconnect with the place and better understand where they come from.
Naples, with its ancient culture and strong identity, became the centre of the project, alongside Caserta and the island of Procida. I photographed these places with the intention of capturing both their beauty and their everyday presence.
The work moves between landscapes and cityscapes, focusing on atmosphere, history, and the rhythm of life shaped by place.
Wien
I decided to remain after the gathering to get to know Vienna at a slower pace and to photograph it more freely. The focus was on the rhythm of the city, its architecture, and its urban landscapes.
A persistent Viennese fog shaped much of the work, softening the city and giving several images a quiet, distinctive atmosphere.
A Fábrica
My father has worked in this factory in São Paulo for over 40 years, and one day I had the idea to photograph the place. He agreed and gave me permission to explore the facilities.
The factory produces components for vintage and new vehicles. It is very traditional, which is what makes it unique. The celeste green walls, the mix of plastic and metal in the air, and the rhythm of the machines create a distinctive atmosphere.
It was a pleasure to explore the space, see the machines in action, and talk with the workers. The project captures not just the place, but the life and history within it.
Ísland
Looking back, I still have unfinished business with Iceland. With more experience now, I hope to return and remake some of these images, seeing them with new eyes.
It was simple, honest, and I learned a lot about life on the road as a photographer.
I had a guide of places to visit, so the trip wasn’t spontaneous, but it taught me how to travel and work with patience, observation, and focus.
